WIP Wendsday

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

I have finished the last blocks of the Raspberry Rabbits 2012 BOM.
October
November
December

Here are all the blocks together.  I still need to find fabric for a boarder and backing.

I have these fabrics and zippers for another SAL that I plan on joining.
Check it out over at the A Quilter's Table. Runs from January 28 - February 15th, plenty of time to join in!

Happy creating!  Blessings from our home in the woods.

Friday Night Sew In Results

I got a rather late start sewing last night but I did finish one project.  This is the January block for the BOM that I joined with two of my friends.  We worked on it together last weekend and I had the applique done.   These are so easy.  Just a little bit of embroidery, quite a bit of cutting and fuse it on.  Last night I backed it and stitched in the ditch along the boarder.
I do not have the frame ready yet, but hope to in the next couple of days, the following picture I shared before of the pattern book so you get an idea how this will be used.  I will share it in the frame as soon as I get it prepared.
That is all I finished last night but this morning I did stuff the dolly's that were sitting on the cutting table.
I have had this fabric panel for a couple of years and had sewn them up earlier in the week.  Took quite a lot of time and fiber fill to stuff them tightly.  Still could not get the necks not to have a wrinkle in them.  Did I stuff to tight?  Wanted the grands to be able to play with them and not end up with floppy heads.  They are cute aren't they?  That is it for my Friday night sew-in.

Went to Weigh In this morning, only lost 1/2 pound, trying not to get discouraged but I seem to be at a stand still for the past three weeks.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend, I am going to go visit some other Friday Night participants.  Blessings from our home in the woods!

Organizing

As I am sure a lot of you are doing this winter, I am trying to get my home more organized.  I have started with my crafting/sewing areas first.  I did not remember to take a before picture, but let me tell you this closet had bags of yarn tossed in on the floor along with stuff I was planning on giving away.  I already had a couple  hanging closet organizers but I needed to get one more to get things put away.
This closet has a cedar wall so I think it is fine to leave the yarn in the open.  Another thing that I realized after buying the cheaper plastic hanger instead of one of the canvas ones that the cheaper hanger is actually sturdier.  The larger canvas sweater hanger sags while the plastic one has some hard edges across the front.  I also use a vintage cloths hamper to throw smaller pieces of yarn leftover from projects to use for scrap afghans when the stash gets large enough.  And when you clean out a closet it seems you always find something you have forgotten about.  I made all my grands afghans for their birthdays two years ago and I had bought yarn for our new grandson that I had put away.  His birthday is in May so it is a good thing I found the bag of yarn that I had already purchased.

Next week I hope to show you what I am doing with the mess you see in the next picture.

When I cut out quilt pieces and other sewing projects I have been throwing the scraps that are large enough to keep but to small to fold nicely in this bassinet.  It had become quite a jumble and I could not find a scrap of the correct color when I needed it.  Sew, I have started a project to sort these scraps into.

It is also Friday Night Sew In tonight.  I signed up late and it is getting late but I plan on working on something from my cutting table.
Not sure what I will finish off or start but I will check back in with you tomorrow!

I may even just end up working on the afghan that I talked about in the first part of this post.  Hope you all have a wonderful Friday Night!  It certainly is the night for bloggy parties.  Blessings from our home in the woods.

Jumping on Board

I am jumping on board the home made cleaners wagon.  Everyone is a step ahead of me and I have some catching up to do but I have one to share in case you have not tried it yet.  Simple easy orange cleaner.  It is made with just orange peels and vinegar and you let it set for a couple of weeks.
You can get the complete instructions at The Fountain Avenue Kitchen and the post has a ton of comments that give you a lot of other similar ideas.  There were so many comments on this particular post that I finally quit reading just to get started on my own cleaning.

I put most of the cleaner in a spray bottle and kept a little aside to put in some mop water.  My daughter uses it that way and says that it works so much better than the orange scented cleaners you buy at the store.
I have not mopped my floors with it yet but I did spray some on the island counter top and let it set for a few minutes before washing off.  It cleaned the grout really well.  I usually spray with the bleach kitchen cleaner when the grout starts to look discolored and this works almost as well.  It was not bleached out as much but when it dried it looked very clean.  On my way to green cleaning.  Whats next?

Looking forward to the weekend.  Spending some time sewing with friends.  I wish you all a wonderful weekend and many blessings from our home in the woods!

Sunday Praise

Luke 19:37-38
When he came near the place where
the road goes down the Mount of Olives,
the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully
to praise God in loud voices for all the
miracles they had seen:
Blessed is the king who comes in the
name of the Lord!

WIP Wednesday

Pillows, pillows and more pillows.
I bought this pattern a couple of years ago and I need to tell you if you don't like to embroider you would still use this pattern.
The boarder is pieced together with charm squares and you buy a coordinating half yard for the back of the pillow.  The directions are so easy to follow and you could easily fussy cut a piece of fabric for the center of the pillow.  I stitched the original design and finished it for our family room.

And I liked how easily it went together I used a free stitchery design from Red Brolly and made pillow for my best friends birthday.

I picked up a charm pack of the fabric she collected to make a quilt for her sewing/guest room.  She is working hard on finishing her projects she has started before starting another.  These fabrics are so fun I would be working on the Swoon quilt pattern she is going to be using because I have no will power when it comes to new patterns and fabrics.  But this I have finished because I could not wait to give it to her.
I finished another crocheted pillow:
I have already shared the next one.
I think I could make a pillow every week if I did not have so many other projects hanging out in my work area.  I am still working on my last block for the Raspberry Rabbit BOM and my friends and I joined a local quilt shop BOM and are going to work on the January block in a couple of weeks.
This is a really neat project because each month you finish the project instead of waiting until the end of the year to put it all together.  Each month you applique your block and it replaces the block in your frame from the previous month.  I still need to find a frame but I have just the wall to hang it on.  So I am ready to start!
Many blessings from our home in the woods!

Tuesdays Treasure

To keep me blogging and sharing more often I am linking up with some parties that I have never joined before.  Melody over at The House on the Side of the Hill has a monthly party called Tuesday Treasures.
My treasure this month is my oldest Grand Daughter.  She and her younger sister came for an over night this weekend.  My treasure, my oldest Grand Daughter who is 7 asked me to teach her to embroider.  She brought along an embroidery kit that she received for Christmas and I taught her the back stitch.

She got the hang of it quickly and finished her little hanky that evening and gifted it to her mommy the next day.

I do have 6 more of these treasures and I know I share them often.  But this one truly put a smile on my face because she was interested in something that I love to do.  Blessings and smiles to all that stop by from our home in the woods.
I love sharing my Tuesday Treasures

Results

Quick note, because our grand daughters are visiting this weekend.  This was the first time I joined the Friday Night With Friends party and I want to show what I finished, but one of the projects is a birthday present and it does not get delivered until Tuesday.  Sew, I am going to show you pieces of the charm squares cut and ready for sewing and a piece of the project before I finished it.  I will post a completed picture after my friend receives the present later in the week.

Peek at the close to finished project.

I also worked on the last 2012 BOM from Raspberry Rabbit.  Cannot wait to add it to the other blocks and decide what fabric I want to finish it with.  I will show this finished block later in the week also.
I hope you are all having a great weekend.  Back to the grand daughters now, blessings from our home in the woods!

This Evening

This evening I will be sewing and working on some hand stitching,
Everyone is WelcoMe

Tomorrow I hope to have something new to share!

And I have signed up again this year for the Beth Fish Reads Challenge.

If your interested here is the sign up post.  I had a lot of fun finding books for the different categories last year and read a couple I probably would not have picked out myself suggested by friends.

Have a great evening!

Sharing

Hi Friends!  Happy New Year!  I hope you all had wonderful holidays with your family and friends.  I want to promise that I will be a better blogger friend and post more often, I want to promise, but that is a promise I seem not to be able to keep when made.  It seems that our life gets in the way when we make plans to get things that do not have to be done, done.  There are all those things that do have to be done that come first, which I know all of you know.  But I do have good intentions every time I share anything with you to continue to do so in a more expedient fashion.  So with the New Year comes a new year of blogging and today I would like to share some past projects that I have not shared and some family sharing also.

If you remember last year I was sewing aprons for family and friends.  I have not finished all the family aprons, there are still a few to go,  but I did finish the birthday aprons for my friends this past fall and I even made one for myself.

And my own, being modeled by myself 10 pounds lighter then two months ago.  I joined Weight Watchers with my sister in law and have hopes that the next time I post a picture of myself here I will 20-25 pounds lighter.

I love to go to bookstores.  I can spend a lot of time there browsing and finding my next 2-3 reads.  It is almost an hour to the nearest one so when I can make it there, I want to come home with some new good reads.  But in the last few months I have been coming home with material that looks more like this.
That is because my youngest daughter is homeschooling her daughters this year and I am trying to help with some new materials to fill in what she does not find at the public library or home school library.  The girls are loving the Boxcar Children series so I picked up two more of those and they are going to be studying the planets this next month.
Christmas pictures.
They are in first and second grade.  My middle daughter, their Auntie that has four boys, bought the sweet jackets for them.   And if you have been or are a homeschooling mother, my daughter has a blog site where she is posting their homeschooling adventures and would love any comments with suggestions or ideas she can use.  You can visit these sweet girls at Adventures in Homeschooling.

Thanks for stopping by and blessings from our home in the woods!
