My Day

My day was wonderful!  First I went to my Weight Watchers weigh in and I had a good loss of 1.2 pounds and made my 10% weight loss goal.  Now I have to decide on that last goal weight.  At 55 I think I will be picking the higher weight goal they have listed for my height and age.

Next two friends came to spend the day with me!  We went to the quilt shop to pick up our BOM kit.
We were really taking pictures of the finished BOM that we are participating in but you can see just a small portion of the shop behind our focus.  I bought a couple of new things of course!
We all made a portion of the lunch we shared and worked on cutting out our March block together and started the stitching.  I live an hour and fifteen minutes away from my friends and they had to leave mid- afternoon, so I finished up my February BOM this evening.
I enjoyed my Saturday so much and I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend also!
Blessing from our home in the woods!

Friday Night Sew In Results

My Friday Night Sew In Results, I am sad to say there are none.  I think I can get more into my day than possible sometimes and yesterday was one of them.  But today I have a sew in day with friends, so I will post later what I got done and hopefully the small project will be done that I had planned on working on last night.  I hope to have time to visit everyone later today and see what all of you got accomplished.  Have a great day!
Blessings from our home in the woods.

Sunday Praise

Isaiah 42:10
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise from the ends of the earth
you who go down to the sea, and all
that is in it,
you islands, and all who live in
them.

Hand Mades

First off, I want to wish you all a very happy Valentines Day!

Next, I want to share the aprons that I finished this week for my daughter and grand-daughters.  I had this fabric cut out months ago,  I mean it was getting close to a year ago.  I am so glad that the aprons still fit my growing grand-daughters!
This is my youngest daughter, the homeschooling mama and her daughters.  There is a little boy in the family also, but no girly aprons for him.  I think it would get in the way of his crawling.
Want to visit my daughters homeschooling blog site?  Adventures in Homeschooling
They have been having great fun with some wonderful learning adventures which include cooking recipes that they find to go along with the countries they are studying.

I also want to share what I have made for the women in my life, family and friends for Valentine gifts this year.  This past Christmas one of my good friends gave me some home made hand lotion and I love it.  No one was really sure if the recipe came from a blog or site on line so I cannot give anyone credit and I cannot take credit for how well these ingredients work together.  But I am going to share it with all of you and let you know that it is really healing this time of year when our hands, arms and legs are so dry from the heat in our homes and the cold weather outside.

You start with one 13 ounce jar of Vaseline.
We have found if you warm it a little in the microwave it is easier to work with. Do not melt it, just warm it a little.  I used an empty ice cream bucket to do this and mix all the other ingredients in.

You also add four 8 ounce jars of Vitamin E Skin Cream from the Dollar General store only $1.00 each.
And 1 large Johnson Baby Lotion 16-20 ounces.  I like the bedtime scented baby lotion so I used one whole bottle and a little from a second bottle.  The rest went to my daughter for her baby boy.
Mix well, I used my electric hand mixer, it turns really creamy.
And it makes a lot!  I filled jars I bought from Hobby Lobby for my daughters, sisters, mother and mother in law.  When I ran out of these jars I filled some empty, tiny jelly jars that I had on hand. I am sorry no pictures of the jelly jars they were given away last week, but I think they may be easier to get to the bottom of the jar than the others that have a smaller neck on them.
I hope you are all having a sweet Valentines Day and a great week!
Blessings from our home in the woods.
Brenda

Snow!

We finally received a substantial amount of snow.  So far this winter we have been getting a little here and a little there and the snow storms have been stopping short of us or going south or north of us.  Now I am not complaining because I am really not a winter person, but this storm has made everything pretty and except for not enjoying driving in it I have not really minded this nice big snow storm.
Thursday evening when I got home this is how much we had gotten through the day.  Now you may think this is a strange way to calculate how much snow has fallen but for some reason the snow that piles up on our deck seems to give us a pretty accurate depth.

What the driveway looked like yesterday while hubs was plowing.

This morning the deck and the driveway looked like this:

To get the hens this morning, I was almost knee deep in snow.

After work this is what I came home to.  Hubs had a lot of fun playing in the snow since he had the day off!

And of coarse at the end of the path the girls await.  They are really getting tired of being shut in.  I think in the next couple of days they might be able to get out in the run again.

They love to eat the snow that I track into the hen house when I go to feed and change their water.  I usually scoop a lot of snow up in the waterer for them before I take it back inside.
My black Jersey Giant has started molting.  She always molts this time of the year and  she ends up with a featherless neck for months.  She is such a pretty chicken and has such a very sweet nature also, that is is sad to see her look so messy for months.  She is the large chicken on the roost.
A few more snowy pictures:

My favorite Charlie Brown tree, I have to take a picture of it every year.

WIP Wednesday

I have been making some headway on finishing a couple of the many projects that I have in the works and waiting to be started.  Hubs finally put the bracket on the back of the frame for the BOM I am participating in this year with a two of  my friends.  Wonder why these frames do not come with the hangers on the back anymore?  I am not always such a patient person when it comes to waiting  for the end result.

Joined in with the Triple-Zip along and here are my results.   I think I took too large of seams when I put the zippers in.  I had it cut out last Friday and sewed it up yesterday evening within a couple of hours.  I would have done it a little differently if I was to do it again.  I would have changed the zippers around so the colors would have shown up better.  I laid it out and thought it was going to work but things sure change once they are put together.

There is still time to join in if you are interested. The tutorial is at A Quilter's Table and there is a Flicker group to join!

I also picked the Penny Rug back up that I had started last year with Melody over at The House on the Side of the Hill.
A Free 10 month BOM
Melody's Rug!

I just finished the third part of the SAL.

Love the sheep!

I have the next section ready for the stitching.  Cute school house!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week!  Blessings from our home in the woods.

Cutting

I played along with Gone Stitchin's Friday Night with Friends last night.

I started out with this:

I was able to get enough squares cut for 6 more blocks.  I think this will keep me busy on my next weekday off, maybe this coming Tuesday.

I also cut the pieces for the Triple Zip Sew Along.  This is what I really want to work on this afternoon.

And this is what the weather looks like out our back door and why I am happy and content to stay inside.

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend so far and are doing just what you love.

Blessings from our home in the woods!

More Organizing

Last week I shared how I organized a closet that I keep my yarn in.  Then I shared a picture of this mess.
Now this bassinet was an easy target to throw all my fabric scraps in that were to small to fold and put away but large enough to keep.  The bassinet is still setting in my studio but it now looks like this.

Some vintage linens and dolls from my baby years and  some newly stuffed dollies.

This is where all the scraps are now.

I found the tutorial to make these bags over at Always a Project and it is very easy to follow.  I changed the way that I hung them and I decoupaged some fabric on the outside hoop, that you really cannot see, just because I always have to change things.  It is just me.  The cuffs of the bags are the color code for the fabric scraps, now if I need a small piece of fabric a certain color I can just dig into one of these bags.  I love it!  And since I was hanging bags and this wall has been bare for a couple of years now I decided to start hanging up some vintage shelves and a picture I put together from an old childhood book.

This shelf holds some little trinkets that my mother use to collect along with a few vintage finds.
I attached the old cloths pins to a used frame years ago and just got around to adding the picture.

Was hoping to get a few Valentines decor up but ran out of time, need to do so more creating.  But I did a little more decoupaging on an old wood hanger that I found the last time I went junking.

Added some fun vintage buttons.

Linking ups with these Friday Night Parties:

And now I am off to my studio to get busy and Sew With Friends!

But I will not be sewing, I will be cutting.  As many of these 2 1/2 squares as I can get done.  When I get my makeshift design wall filled I will start sewing on these again.

So go join some of the parties or just stop by and soak in all the inspiration!  Blessings to you  from our home in the woods!
