WIP Wednesday

As always I have a few works in progress but this week I have been doing some hand stitching. I finally started the the Penny Rug SAL over at The House on the Side of the Hill.
I was not able to find a larger piece of wool blend felt for the the base of the penny rug in the color I wanted so I bought white and dyed it.
I expected the fabric to shrink so I bought extra but I was still a little short when I squared it up.  But I think I will be able to get everything on by just spacing a little less along the long sides.  Here is part of month one I believe Melody just posted month five a week ago, so I have some catching up to do.
I am trying to decide whether to give the door a french knot door handle or find a small button.  What do you think?
I have also just started May's block for the Raspberry Rabbit QAL.

I am hoping to have the stitching done on this block and ready for the applique by the weekend.

Gardening and Blooms

I'm still here, I just have not had a lot to talk about in the past few days.  I have been working outside in my flower beds but there is not a lot to show of that yet.  Potted up a couple of pots to fill in some bare spots in the border.
There are daisies and poppies blooming.
The vegetable garden we put in is about a quarter of the size that we normally plant.  Hubs is reworking the rest of the area, adding compost and whatever else it needs this year.  Letting it rest in hopes that next year it will produce better than it did last year.  It is hard to see but this is what we planted this past weekend.
There are about 1 dozen tomato plants, a row of peppers, some cucumbers, zucchini and two rows of green beans.  The thing is, that is about the size we always planted when we lived in the city and we had just enough for the table and some to can.  We have been sharing a lot since we moved here a few years ago so we will have to disappoint a few family and friends this year.  But hopefully we will be able to share again next year.

I leave you now with a picture of a couple of the feathered ladies.  They are happy as can be now that they are able to wonder around the yard again.
Blessings from our home in the woods!

Farmgirl Friday

Hello friends!  I do not have a lot to share this Friday because I have been working a few more hours this week and last week I was busy attending to our grand daughters while their brother was coming into the world, which I told you about here.  Before I went away I did get some more aprons made for my sister-in- law's birthday.  In case you have not visited before, I am making all the ladies in my life aprons for their birthdays this year.  My friends are getting work/sewing aprons and our family members are getting aprons to use in the kitchen.  Sew, here are some pictures of the aprons that I delivered weekend before last.  Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of the recipients wearing them because they were not home when I dropped them off.
I decided to make this a mother/daughter gift even if it was only the mothers birthday.
It has finally started warming up here in Michigan.  It has still been getting cold in our neck of the woods at night but I decided it would be safe to start cleaning out my flower boarder yesterday.  While walking around taking stock of what came back up and what did not, I managed to pick a few blooms.
There are only a few of these daisy's blooming right now so I was a little stingy when it came to picking them.  The Lupin is wild and grows along the edge of the woods here.

Grand Number Seven is Here

This is Henry Scott, he was born last Thursday at 8 pounds 6 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long.
These are his sisters and my youngest daughter, mommy of coarse!  I stayed with the girls and delivered them to school and picked them up daily and even went on a field trip with the oldest.  They also came home with me until Mothers Day morning when I returned them to Mommy and Daddy.  They are in love with their brother as are we.
Those of you that are on Facebook have already saw these same pictures but I thought I better post them here so the rest of you know where and what I have been doing recently.  Have a great week friends!  Blessings from our home in the woods.

Book Three What's in a Name Book Challenge

I have probably read over a dozen books since signing up for this challenge but this is only the third book I have read with something in the title that is on the list.   This book will fill category #5 "A book with something you'd carry in your pocket, purse, or backpack in the title".
This was a fun book about southern women in a small southern town.  The story is mostly about saving a Dollar Store, or I would call it a Dime Store from my childhood memory, from going under because a large Dollar Store chain was coming to town.  There are other books that follow this one and I enjoyed it enough to read the next two, hopefully they will be at our local library.  I am not a book reviewer but I am having fun finding books to fit in the categories of this challenge.

I will not be posting again until later in the week.  By time the end of the week rolls around I will be grandma to number 7 grand and will have a picture or two to share.  Until then, I am headed to the city day after tomorrow to watch the new babe's older sisters.  There will be some dinner out with grandma, a little shopping and I am going on the oldest grand daughter's field trip on Friday.  Enjoy the rest of your week!  Blessings from our home in the woods.

WIP Wednesday

The Work In Progress I have to share today is the March and April blocks for the Harrington and Hannah BOM over at Raspberry Rabbits.
March's Block

April's Block

Not sure where the first quarter of the year has gone but I am sure happy to catch up with this project.  I am not going to list all my WIP's because it will probably put me into a tailspin.  Check out all the other WIP's over at Freshly Pieced and have a great evening!  Blessings!
