WIP Wednesday

I am back to blogging after almost a two week break.  I do not usually take such a long time away from posting but I think I just needed to have some time off and start fresh.  I have a lot to share over the next few days.  Today I am going to share some projects in the process and a finished one.

I cut out two more Great Granny Square quilt blocks.  These will be blocks 3 and 4.  At the rate I am working on this project, there is no telling how long it will take me to put together 54 of these blocks.

I have backed the fall table topper and have the layers safety pin basted together ready to quilt.  Excited to get this project finished this week so I can put it to use.

Do not know if you will remember the train case I showed you a few weeks ago that I have been carrying my hand sewing around in.  I finally got around to tearing the old paper out of it.

I relined the sides and top of the case with some vintage fabric I have had laying around for quite a few years.   I mounted the stitchery that I shared a few weeks ago and put it in the place a mirror use to be, but no longer was when I bought the case.

In case you would like to stitch up this cute little girl you can get the free pattern at Imagine Gnats here.
I could not center the stitchery on the inside of the top because I had already punched holes and ran ribbon through it for a pair of scissors.  Since I did not think ahead I found that I could not get the scissors out if I attached it centered.  Sometimes I forget to do the math.  Here are the four sides of the inside of the case.

I cut a vintage hankie to make a pocket.

The other half of the hankie.

Favorite hoop.
Decided I needed some more pink so I made a pin cushion and attached with Velcro.
I liked the original blue covering on the outside of the case so I used some antique colored furniture wax to shine it up a little and stain the edges where the paper had worn through.  Now I am ready to fill this case with threads and projects.  Thanks for stopping by.  Enjoy the rest of your week and blessings from our house in the woods!

Some Progress

The past couple of days I have made some progress on a couple of projects.  Last week I had the hexagons basted for a fall table topper.
The magazine pattern instructed me to stitch the hexagons together by machine with a zigzag stitch.  I am just learning how to do English Paper Piecing and decided to hand stitch them together the same as a small flower I did for a wall hanging a few months ago.
Now it is ready for the backing and quilting. My best friend and I bought the backing together and I will have to get my half from her next week.  Which is fine because there is still more than another month of fall and I just really just want to have it finished for Thanksgiving.
So I sat the table topper aside and decided it was time to tackle my first Granny Square Block.  I have had the pieces cut for two blocks and ready to piece for over a month.
I expect the the rest of the blocks will not take me as long as this one did and maybe I will not be as scared to find the center and square it up next time.  I am hoping to get a handful of these done a week because I decided to make a twin size quilt and my cheat sheet says I need 54 total.  Oh my.  I also have 5 aprons cut out and fabric for three more.  And the list goes on.

Blessing from our home in the woods!

A Pretty Tree

Five days a week I drive by the local cemetery on my way to work.  I always leave at the last minute and am always rushing.  It is not that I get up late because I get up so much earlier than I need to.  I just like my home, and the things I would rather be doing there hold me back.  Every Fall, in the middle of this pine tree filled cemetery, there is a large tree that turns a beautiful shade of red.  Every Fall I plan on taking my camera with me and stop to take a picture.  And every year, up until this year, I would forget my camera or I would be in that big rush to get to work, and the rain or a really windy day would come.  Then overnight the leaves would be gone.
But this morning, as I was running late yet again,  I decided to slow down.  I stopped at the end of our lane to put a letter for my grand daughter in the mail box instead of dropping it later in the day.  My youngest daughter is home schooling her daughters and on Mondays they write letters for a writing project.  The oldest grand daughter has not received a letter back yet and I decided I would respond the very next day after receiving one.  Next,  I stopped in the middle of the road and took that picture of "the tree" from my car window and after work I stopped again, got out of my car and took a couple more pictures of that beautiful tree.

If I had a better camera than my little point and shoot, these could be some awesome pictures.  But the real reason for this post is that I stopped, I took  the time because I wanted to, not because I had to.  I took a moment in my day to look at something pretty instead of rushing by it.  I hope you have a fantastic Fall weekend and take time to see the world around you.

Blessings from our home in the woods!

WIP Wednesday

Good evening!  I meant to get this post ready earlier today but I got sidetracked which seems to be my new and improved routine as of late.  I am going to join with others for WIP Wednesday today so I will start out showing you some hand stitching I have finished in the past month or so.
I have been stitching in the evenings and these have been piling up waiting for the finished projects to happen. Even the fabrics that they are laying on top of have recently been cut for a gift that needs finished.  These were the items that were on my cutting table this past Saturday evening.  As of Monday I finished the August and September blocks for the Raspberry Rabbit QAL.

I am so glad to have caught up with these again.  I now have the first nine months pieced together.
Love it!
Also in the pile is a  piece of fabric with three stitching's that will be added to the following Hexies.
My best friend and I are sharing a charm pack for this project that we started a couple of weekends ago when I went down for a girls night out with a day of shopping to follow.  We live over a hour apart so we really cannot work on our projects together like we would like.  But it was great fun to start it together.  I picked up the little vintage train case in the background from a re-sale shop a few months ago and have been using it for current hand stitching projects.  I keep a hoop, needles, threads and what ever else I might need for the project I am working on in it.  This works great because I can just gather it all up and take it with me.  Here is what the inside looks like.
Have you seen all the cute retro suitcases and train cases on Pinterest that have been finished off so cute inside for sewing and crafts?  Well that is my plan.  Need some cuteness inside this case.  As you can see the mirror is missing.  One of the stitching's from the top picture is going to go in that spot.

I hope you are all having a great week so far.
