A little change makes a lot of difference.

I  have been working on the family room this past month.  The walls are painted.  Yeah!  Big job for me because I do not like heights and hubs has been laid up.  But I got to the end wall and went as far as I was comfortable and hubs was able to just brush the rest on.  It was a very small space over the highest window.  We still cannot start on the trim because the doctor has not given hubs the ok to do a lot of lifting yet,  I think he still has a five pound limit.  So I am working around that and doing all the tweaking I can do on my own.  I love old prints and have one that my Mom-in-law bought for me a couple of months ago that I just love.  Its a very grey landscape and was in a very gold frame.  It needed a little help and also needed a better spot to hang.  Here is where I had it until I could decide what to do with it.

It is certainly not large enough to place over this couch which I realized after hanging it there.  There was a lot of the gold missing on the frame.

So I found my old tube of Rub n Buff.

I painted the center of the frame with black acrylic and rubbed the antique gold Rub n Buff over the spots missing gold and added some over the black in places because the frame was textured.  Finished it off with some satin clear coat.   The black added to the frame brings out the colors of the picture more.

And this is how it looks against the blue wall I have at one end of the same room.  The original wall it was on has been painted also but I'll show you what I add to it later.  I could not get a picture without the big windows behind me reflecting in the glass of the picture.
Just a little something I am linking up to to Funky Junks Saturday Nite Special where you can go see some really talented projects.

Alphabe-Thursday

Flowers, Frogs and Ferns?
Why the question mark?  Because I am posting things beginning with the letter F for Alphabe-Thursday but I am really actually thinking about summer and how much I am longing for it.  But for now here are some pictures of some of the flowers I grow in our gardens and around our yard.

We have two ponds and a ton of these jumpy, chirping, croaking and singing all night green frogs.  When they start making noise summer is near.  I have actually become use to them singing me to sleep at night.

And last, the ferns that cover the floor of the woods that surrounds us like a sea of green.  They try and take over the gardens and the wooded walks we have.  The grandchildren like to hide in them because they get so tall and they are still so short.

I believe this is a post of things beginning with the letter F and a dreamer thinking about her favorite season of the year.  I hope you enjoyed thinking about summer with me I always enjoy you coming by.

E is for Easter Eggs
The pictures and the party actually took place a couple of years ago at my middle daughters home, so all the grandchildren are older and there is one more in the family since.  Here are the older grandchildren coloring the eggs.

E is for Easter Bunny Cake middle daughter made and served to the grandchildren at the egg decorating party.

Sweet Gift!

During the month of January, Funky Junk had a 1000 Followers Event and gave away some awesome gifts made by her blogger friends.  I won one of the gifts and received it this past week.

My gift came from Barbara Jean at Treasures from the Heart.  There are actually two separate pieces but I liked how they looked hanging together.  I picked this cupboard to hang it on because I think the little blue eggs really show up on the blue I have painted it.  On the smaller piece there is a little tea bag rose that you can go to Barbara Jean's blog for a tutorial here:

Barbara also has a tutorial for the birds nest and a shop where she sells her pretties on her sidebar, to check those out go here:

Thanks for coming by for my show and tell today!  Have a great week!

Updated Plant Stand

I have been painting our Great Room and doing some tweaking along with moving the furniture and wall decor around.  This is a large room off our dining area that was listed as a Great Room when we bought the house.  We lived in a very small house for 28 years and I just do not know what else to call it.  It is just a great big room that we just sit in and look out the great big windows.  It does not get used a lot.  Mostly when we have company.  I think I would be more comfortable calling it a family room and the room downstairs that they called the family room the den.  That is where hubs spends his down time.  So one of the things I have been working on this week is a plant stand that was just put together from odds and ends.  Hubs had built it for a speaker stand years ago and when he did not use it any longer he put a wider top and bottom on it. This is what it has looked like for a few years.  Unfinished with a large plant covering most of it.

I started out by painting the top and bottom barn red but that picture did not turn out to share.  Next I painted the whole thing Courtyard Tan, (not so white, white).

The next thing I did was sand off the white paint along the edges and some raised areas.  I found I did not have any antiquing gel so I mixed Raw Umber acrylic paint into some Dutch Boy Clear Glaze that I had and brushed that on next, wiping off a little where I did not want it.  Here is the finished plant stand after I added a coat of polycrylic.  It is hard not to set the plant on it but hubby said I better wait a few days.  Patience.....

Scrappy Frogs Challenge

Scrappy Frogs Challenge Blog is having a challenge in which you are suppose to decorate the mini mailboxes from Target's dollar section.  Both times I stopped in when I was in the city they were out of the mailboxes so I picked up a paper-mach'e mailbox from one of the craft stores (sorry do not remember which).  Here is my finished mailbox waiting for some sweet treats for my hubs.

I used a lot of Glimmer Mist in Scarlet and Coffee Shop colors. Sprayed the mailbox itself and the papers.  Then I embossed the end papers with a Cuttlebug Heart Block embossing folder.  I also used a Spellbinders die cut and Scent With Love clear stamps, a couple of Stampin Up stamps and glitter.  Linking up with http://scrappyfrogschallenge.blogspot.com/2010/02/were-back.html

D is for Dollhouse
I have to admit I was stumped on what to use for the letter D this week.  I have been cleaning out and organizing drawers  and I was leaning towards that, even took a picture of a whole dresser of empty drawersBoring.  Then I visited Jamye at http://talefromthecoopkeeper.blogspot.com/ and read this post:
http://talefromthecoopkeeper.blogspot.com/2010/02/did-ya-miss-me.html and inspiration hit me.
My dad built dollhouse's for my younger sister and myself for Christmas when we were very young.  They matched except the front doors were on opposite sides.  A few years ago I decided to add some decorative painting on mine and hubs added some shingles.  I also added the little stones that are on the chimney.  So this is what the outside of the house looks like now
.

And this is what the back and the inside look like.

The inside of the house is really rough and needs some fresh paint, wallpaper, rugs and a lot more.  I have been collecting some furnishings but have not started working on the rooms yet, but Jayme, coop-keeper sure has given me some new ideas.  The really fun thing that has recently happened concerning my dollhouse is one of our neighbors gave my husband some dollhouse plans he had received from his dad.  He expected hubs would like to use them to build our grand daughters dollhouses.
Do they look familiar?  I believe they are the very same plans my dad used!  You should take a trip on over to Jenny Matlock's and check out what the other participants posted this week and thanks for stopping by!
