Vacation Day Two Part Two

After visiting the lighthouse we made our way down the west coast of the peninsula toward Sleeping Bear Dunes.  Our destination was the Pierce Stoking Scenic Drive.  If you have not taken it, you should, there are some great scenic points along the way where you can get out of your car and take some awesome pictures.  I wish I had a camera that would give you a better view but I seem to have trouble working my point and shoot so I am sure anything better would be a waste of money for me.
The trail is 7.4 miles and was developed by lumberman Pierce Stocking.
Covered bridge has a higher roof then the original for vehicle clearance and the sides have been rebuilt because the original was largely consumed by porcupines.  Just thought I would throw that little tidbit in.
View of Glen Lake
Dune Overlook
The above picture and the next two are at the Lake Michigan overlook.
It is quite a climb to get back up to the overview if you decide to go down the bluff to the shore.  The park really does not want anyone to climb this bluff because it is eroding about a foot per year.  Does not look like a lot of the visitors read their brochure.
Overlook of North Bar Lake.

And, the main reason for the trip was to spend some quality time with this man, my hubs.  Again not the best picture but there he is.

I hope you enjoyed the picture tour of our vacation.  We had a great time and we both agreed we would return to this area again.  Blessings!

Vacation Day Two

Not so much chatter today, mostly pictures.  After stopping for breakfast the morning of day two of our trip we traveled to the point to check out the Grand Traverse Lighthouse.
Front view
Rear view, I think the best view.
There were a lot of sculptural planters and walls built out of these rocks like in the above picture.
And this little guy thought he had all kinds of Thyme before skittering away.

Some pretty beach scenes along the shore of the lighthouse.
Makes me want to go back tomorrow!  There is one more stop that we made on our way back home, I will share tomorrow.  Blessings from our home in the woods!

My Vacation

Hubs and I  were on vacation week before last but this past week we had company here at our home so I have not had any time to blog about vacation or any thing else I have been up to.  So I will just start sharing as I can and by the end of the week I should be caught up, unless life takes over again.

We mostly had a staycation but we did go away for a couple of days to travel around the Leelanau Peninsula here in Michigan.  It is around two hours north of our home so the drive was not far which made the gas tank less expensive to keep filled.

We stayed just south of Suttons Bay which we arrived at around 11:00 AM on a Monday.  You can travel any where you want on the Peninsula in less than an hour.  After we arrived and checked in we were off to find some lunch.  We had a guide book and a local pamphlet which gave us the best places to eat and things we should see in the area.  Otherwise we had no real plans or times mapped out.  We ate lunch on the deck of Knot Just a Bar in Omena.  It had great food and beverages and this is the scene we looked out on while dining.
We next drove back to Suttons Bay to check out their shops.  It is a pretty town and even hubs enjoyed walking in and out of some of the shops.

I am a little disappointed in myself for not buying a print in the shop above that I really liked.  I always have a hard time deciding what I would like to take home with me when we go away.  I hope to go back though so I may get it yet.
A yarn shop for you Cindy Bee, I did not have a project in mind when I walked in but I did find these buttons.
Cute little Ladybug (our sweet Scottie) buttons.
Mine and hubs favorite shop.  Full of great lawn ornamentation, inside and out.  Unfortunately what we had our eyes on was way out of our budget.
After spending an hour or so shopping in Suttons Bay we headed over to Fishtown which is on the lake shore of Leland.

Leland was on our list of stops because hubs had worn out his Minnetonka moccasins that we bought quite a few years ago in the UP and needed to replace them.  He also bought me a cute pair of red moccasins because the sandals I was wearing were hurting my feet.  Here are a couple more pictures of  Fishtown.
It was a very hot day, in the upper 90's and we decided to set out and find some beach so we could dip our feet in the water.  We picked Peterson Park because the description included that it was a beach to find pretty rock and beach glass on.  Well....it was rocky.
Very rocky.
There was a little sand along the water but just past that sand was more of the same rocks and the water came up over the little bit of sand so there was no where to park our beach chairs and was really to hard to walk in without your shoes.  So we just took a short walk and picked up a couple of smaller rocks for memories.

This was the best spot to stand on the whole beach.  We usually pick up pretty little rocks and make stepping stones with them for our walkways at home.
After our short beach stay we were off to freshen up and go to dinner back at Suttons Bay.  We had Whitefish sandwiches at Boone's Prime Time Pub and took a walk on the board walk behind the main street afterward.

End of day one.

I will be back in a couple of days with the rest of the story!   Blessings!

Friday Night Sew In Results

Wow posting two days in a row, that has not happened in a while.  But last night while typing out a post for the Farmgirl Friday party I remembered I was supposed to be in my studio sewing.

Handmade by Heidi

To say the least I did not get a lot accomplished but it got me started!  I had another apron cut out, this one is for my middle daughter, and this is what it looked like when I went downstairs to start.
I managed to get the pockets embellished and sewn to the body of the apron before calling it an evening.
And because I remembered I was supposed to be sewing and did sew, I am finishing it up today.  I will post about it later in the week after hubs and I spend a couple of days away.  We are on vacation this week and I have promised myself to stay off the computer as much as possible.  But I will check back later in the week to let you know what we have been up to.

In case you think I have not been doing any other stitching lately, I thought I would show you the June block for the Raspberry Rabbit QAL that I finished up last week.
This was a fun block and now we are half way through the QAL.  Here is how mine is looking so far.
Tomorrow the July block will be posted and I am going to try and get the pattern transferred over so I can take it with me to work on during our short trip.  It is going to be hot so the Bug is going to stay home with the Mom in Love this time around.  Hope you are having a great weekend and that your week will be full of blessings.  Love from our home in the woods!

Gifts and Blooms

Hi friends I have been busy!  Hubs had two out of state employees with the company he works for visit the  last couple of days. They were here for a work meeting and we had been cleaning and prepping for their stay this past week.  That is the reason there have been no posts all week.  I just uploaded all my pictures for a Farmgirl Friday post when I remembered it is also Friday Night Sew In.  I am going to continue with my Farmgirl Friday post but if I get around to working on the apron I have cut out then I will post the results for Friday Night Sew In tomorrow.  But then I am on vacation and probably will not be posting much over the next few days.

First I would love to show you some country girl gifts from my southern blogging friend the Happy Mrs C.
I received a box in the mail last week with some treasures her and her husband have been collecting from estate sales and re-selling.
Are these not the best farm girl pretties?!  I have found spots for everything except the gloves, still moving them around the house.
Holding the little scrubby I clean the eggs off with before putting them away.

Cutest little cheery salt and pepper shakers!

Was not sure what this little dish was made for.  Mrs C suggested I could use it to hold sewing notions.  It is perfect for that very use.  Here it is above sitting on the side table I usually sit by when I am doing any hand stitching.  Love it all Mrs C!.  I have made such great friends since blogging and these were some very unexpected gifts to receive along with a great hand crafted card.  Thank you friend!

Now while I am catching up I thought I would show you what it blooming in my floral boarder.  I spent a day pulling grasses and weeds last weekend so it would look spiffy for hubs guests.
Yellow Butterfly bush and white and pink Phlox which I find will grow in our sandy soil so I put a lot of these in.
Russian Sage
Bee Balm
Phlox
Gladiolas
I think these are Asters?
Hope you will visit the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop and read what everyone else is talking about this week.
Have a great evening!
