Project Finished, Project Started

Lately I have been sitting with hardly anything to blog about and all of a sudden I could put up 3 or 4 posts today.  So I am going to share a project that I finished up the past couple of days and one that I began today.  A few weeks ago I was hopping around the Pinterest boards and found this wonderful project here at Shabby Chic Inspired blog.  Please go over and see what Viola created for storage because it is beautiful.  I asked her if it would be alright to share my project that she inspired me to do and she wrote back and gave me the OK.  So keeping with recycling and reusing things for storage in my workroom I saved up some cans and jars that I would normally send off to the recycling bin.

I had spray primer and paint on hand so that was the next step.  I also had decoupage glue and went through all my paper, lace and fabrics to find what I wanted to put together.
Work in progress.
I did not have a Lazy Susan and could not find one at any of the Goodwill or Re-sale shops that I stop in so I ended up ordering one from EBay for $9.00.  I did not mind the $9.00 but the shipping was just as much so that made my project a little more costly.
Spray painted the same color but added some antique medium to offset the color of the containers.

I think I need a vintage label for this jar.
This is the first time I have done a project quite like this and it does not really compare to Viola's but I am happy with it.

Now here is where the post gets longer.  My project started.   I showed you earlier in the week some fabric I bought to make some new ironing board covers here.  I have a small board that is attached to the wall by my sewing machine and I also have a very old ironing board that my mom-in-love gave me to replace one that either broke or I gave to a daughter, do not remember which because it has been quite a few years ago.  I started taking the old cover off this evening getting ready to cut out a new one and here is what I found.

First off there were a few springs that held the cover tight from one side to the other.  When I pulled them loose they would fly and if I was not careful they were very sharp and caught onto my hands a couple of times.
If you ever find these please be very careful they are very sharp ends.
Next came the cover, oh did I say cover I meant covers.
Cover one after removing hooks.
Cover two.
Cover three, starting to wonder when this would end.
Padding number one!

Padding number two!
Now when I got to padding number two I had all this orange residue falling all over my workroom floor and was thinking that I should have done this job out in hubs garage area.

This was the tag found on the second padding and last layer I found it interesting that it was made by Goodyear and the orange stuff was some sort of disintegrating foam that was layered between the fabric.

This ironing board is still very sturdy and I love to use it when I iron curtains or large pieces of fabric.

What a job!  Now I will need to make a new pad and cannot wait to show you how it turns out.  I am following instructions from here at Randi's blog "i have to say".

I have been long winded enough tonight.  Thanks for stopping by and blessings from our home in the woods!

Very nice job on the lazy susan caddy. I love the way you decorated the vintage jars...I mean the regular jars to make them LOOK vintage. Good job!

And I was laughing about the ironing board covers. That's too funny. And that ironing board. Do not ever get rid of it. pass it down from one generation to the next. It's too cool. I have a couple of them that I got at garage sales. Never thought about actually using them, I used them to display stuff on at craft shows, but I think I might have to set one up and use it!

Your recycle project is adorable. I can see how it will be handy in your craft/project room.
My mom had an ironing board like yours when I was a girl-- I wish I had it now...I think those are the perfect height to stand at to iron or as a table if needed.

Great job on the recycle jar project. I have been saving jars for my sewing room too! Will be painting the lids and applying vintage decals to the top. Maybe some lace too! I need to keep my eye open for a lazy susan. Thanks for sharing.

I have a love for old ironing boards. You made me laugh because I've had similiar experiences. One board got down to a layer where you could see where the iron (hot from the fire) got placed over and over. Looks like they would just put another cover on when it burnt through.

I love your shabby chic storage project!!! I have a turntable like that, but my tv is on it...after looking at yours, I think I need to paint it!
That is the coolest ironing board ever. I wonder how old that padding is, lol?
