Alphabe-Thursday

J is for Junk
Junk that I can make over for use in our home.  I think the saying is Trash to Treasure, but I am claiming Junk to Treasure.  I do buy new furniture when I find something I just cannot live without but usually when it comes to tables, bookcases, end tables, any wooden item I can repaint I am happy to recycle.  Of course hubs is happy if I buy things that do not need a lot of work from his area of expertise but I am afraid I do not always consider that.  I have a pile of furniture that is waiting for painting for the spare bedroom/my computer room where all the grandchildren sleep when they visit.  I just need to finish up the family room makeover first.  I will post some pictures of that probably in the next 2 weeks or so. Here is some pictures of my junk waiting for some pretty paint.

There are two bed frames and a bed side table.
The white bookcase style use to be one of my
daughters beds.  The one behind it with the
foot board my in-laws found on the side of a street
for free.  They knew I was looking for another
bookcase type headboard so I could do some
similar decorative painting on them. And the little
table I bought real cheap to use on an enclosed
porch years ago.  Time to put it to use elsewhere.

When I get this room done in a couple of months I will be sure to post a picture so you can see how I did with the makeover on this somewhat junky furniture.  In the meantime take a hop and a skip over (thinking about the Easter bunny) to Jenny Matlock's blog to see what everyone else is sharing for the letter J.

I'm glad to see that old headboard is still around! I loved it when I had use of it -- the perfect piece of furniture for a book lover!

I love that you recycle stuff. That's good for the environment and you make something special for yourself. Great post.

Somehow I don't think anything is ever truly junk in your eyes. You seem to see the beauty and potential in all things. I am looking forward to seeing the end product as well!

Great Junk!! Please do post photos of the 'after' look. I too am re-doing a bedroom - my sewing room and the grandsons' bedroom when they visit. I have two little twin four posterd and want to paint them but don't know whether to go black or white. Opinion?

I have never been the sort to be able to look at a piece of junk and see the thing of beauty hiding just beneath the surface. Wish I was! Looks like your guest room is going to be a lovely place to relax!

I've discovered the joys of spray paint this year myself lol. Found the perfect headboard at an antique store, needed some work on the frame attachment and she let me have it for 20.00! Painted the headboard, didn't use the footboard (where the damage was) and put it in the guest room. I get so many compliments and I just smile! Great post. Kathy

Good Morning!

I am always happy to find others that share the same joys in life as me. I had rather have "j"unk than anything I can think of...LOL

I am a firm believer of REpurposing, REcycling, Refinishing..and it is absolutly a crying shame what some people will throw away! I can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks for sharing with us today. Have a great weekend.

What fun to "repurpose" furniture that you have used before! That's the fancy word for it and you are so crafty that I know it will be darling(as we say in the south!).
Is that a Jenny Lind headboard? I have one of those too! We are at the hospital, waiting, will e-mail you when I hear something!

My mother, who was an antique collector before that was fashionable once told me that I decorated in junk! I took it as a compliment.

Neat Junk. Can't wait to see the pictures of room and furniture make-overs. It takes a smart creative woman to see the potential in her junk. :)
