Alphabe-Thursday & HBinFive Braid

H is for Healthy Bread
I recently joined the HBinFive bread group hosted by Michelle at Big Black Dog.  I love to bake and cook but I have not had good results in the bread category.  Michelle's group is baking their way through a new cookbook by Jeff Herlzberg M.D. & Zoe Francis called Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day.  The breads we are suppose to bake and link up on the 15th are Pesto Pine Nut Bread and Avocado-Guacamole Bread.  I mixed up the Pesto Pine Nut Bread and a Soft Whole Wheat Sandwich bread this past Sunday.  You let it go through the first rise on your counter top and then place in the fridge until baking day.

As you can see my container was not quite large enough for the whole wheat bread.

My week started out busy and I did not get to bake until Tuesday evening.  I baked the loaf of Pesto Pine Nut Bread and I believe it came out as it was suppose to.  We tried it with a slice of mozzarella and a little olive oil drizzled over it.

I also baked a loaf of the Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread.  It came out fine except I read the recipe wrong and I needed to use more dough than I did.  The next loaf I used the remainder of the dough but I think I should have adjusted the time more than the five minutes I added.  This is what the two loaves  looked like.

Hubs made some grilled sandwiches the next evening that were really yummy.  Sorry,  I did not get pictures of the sandwiches to share.  The next evening I used the rest of the Pesto Pine Nut Bread to make a pizza.  Hubs and I both liked it best this way.

There is only the two of us so I will not be mixing up more than one batch at a time from now on.  As my husband said we have had a lot of healthy bread this week.  Please go over the Jenny Matlocks to check out the rest of the participants in the Alphabe-Thursday game here.

Of course I am also linking this post up to the HBinFive Braid on the 15th here:

I promise HBinFive group the next Braid post will not be as long!  Hoping to still try the Avocado-Guacamole Bread.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

I have seen the HBin Five bread but since my huddy is gluten-free and I would be the only one to eat it and I adore bread and try not to eat too much of it,I have not done it. I think making bread is so much fun especially my cinnamon rolls with the XXX sugar icing drizzled over the top! Yum!! CAn I use this recipe to make those rolls? I might have to do it!

Great healthy bread ideas. Make sure you use soft butter instead of hard butter as stated in my "H" post! Thanks for your comment.

Oh my goodness! Look at how much your bread rose, clean out of the container! But that's a good thing even though it might have made a mess to clean up!

Gorgeous loaf of bread too and your pizza looks delicious!

There is nothing better than the smell of bread baking, except maybe a piece warm from the oven with a pat of butter..

Mmm... looks so yummy. I am a bread addict and this looks wonderful (hearty and flavorful) even from the pictures. Wish I could have smelled it coming out of the oven.

Wow! Such beautiful breads!! Someday I'm going to figure out how to get mine to raise like that. sigh. In the meantime, I love seeing great examples, like yours, of what they're SUPPOSED to look like. Thanks for sharing. :)

I am loving the over-risen dough. You made a lot of beautiful bread this week. Maybe you could make smaller batches in the future so you don't have so much to eat. I do that sometimes. So much bread so few people to eat it here.

Ha! I love the pic of the ww dough! Your pizza is beautiful! And pairing it with mozzarella sounds like a great idea.

Your loaves looked great. The dough rising up out of the container was great, just proves that it's a living thing. Great pizza too.

I've had that happen with the dough a time or two myself.

That pizza looks delicious! I loved this dough!
