The Canning is Done!

I am so glad to be done with this years canning! I always start out loving it and then after a lot of late nights, after working all day, I start getting tired of it. But our family loves to get a jar of jelly or jam during the winter months. And everyone asks for Salsa. That is Jeff specialty. He helps cut up all the hot peppers and everything else except the tomatoes. I get the tomatoes ready and do the cooking and canning part. We are really a pretty good team when we work together. As you can see we have an empty shelf this year. Last year every shelf was full in the storage room. Not much left in the garden now and a frost is predicted for this coming Thursday which is the opening day of bow season. Jeff is still working on building the hen house and worrying that he has not moved his tree stands around yet. But he wants to close the building up tight for the winter and he is really good with his priorities. I am a lucky woman. Picked out the paint and bought the primer so I am hoping to have a few nice days to get it painted yet this fall and ready for the chicks in the spring.

Oh Brenda, I can so relate!! But look at the bounty you have now! So beautiful! Don't you just feel an amazing sense of satisfaction when you look at all you've done? I always am quite proud of myself when it's all tucked away on it's shelves. I feel like I've really taken care of everyone, we can face anything!!! Such a pioneer spirit!!! What is the bright, lovely green jar?
I too am pretty much done with the garden and orchard. One bucket of Asian pears left to dry and I haven't done anything with my carrots yet. Picked all the cukes and may get another zucchini or two. Hubbard squash will wait til the first frost.
I can't wait to see the finished hen house. So exciting!!!
Have a great week!! Holly

Brenda,
Looks good! I did not can this year even though I planned to. Did some freezing though. It's strange how excited we get at the beginning of the season and tire of it by the end. LOL!

Brenda,
Jeff and I need to come and take lessons from you and your Jeff!! We alsways have such high hopes to have a garden and can/freeze but it never works out. We have a farm ( 10 acres) but it is 1/2 hour away from where we live and it is so hard to get a garden in when you can't just go outside your back yard. Hopefully we are going to build once more out by the little house on the lake which is only 5 minutes from our farm and we can go what I have aways dreamed of...having a huge veggie and flower garden. I will retire in 5 years so this year we are planting 10 apple trees, 2 pecan trees, and maybe a couple of other fruit trees. I started 2 beehives this year so I am trying to get everything in place. We do visit the Mennenitefarmers market and get lots of fresh veggies but it is so much better to grow your own! Thanks for taking the time to read my blog, I have found a new friend!

Ugh, I know how you feel on the canning. Mine is almost done. It's so funny how I so look forward to it and then halfway through just wish it was over! :)
