Wizard of Oz

It is that time of the year when I need to get my dose of the Wizard of Oz movie. I grew up in the decade of black and white TVs. My family was one of the last to get a colored TV in the group of families I knew as a grade school age child. So little did I know, that the movie started in black and white and ended in color. But once a year I needed to watch it with my family and once a year I would hide behind my dad's chair when the flying monkeys came pouncing down. I am not sure how old I was when I saw it for the first time on a colored TV and was astounded when all at once everything was in color. Wow! It is still one of my favorite movies. I actually have a collection of the little dolls that McDonald's gives out in their happy meals, thanks from the help of daughters and granddaughters. I even bought a couple for myself. My middle daughter also bought me a vintage book that I have my little collection in front of on a cupboard shelf in my work room. I just ran across Funky Junk Interiors blog and she is having a vignettes party so I am going to link up to it tonight. Mind you, I do have some prettier or more countrified vignettes but as I said it's just that time of the year. I do not really celebrate Halloween. Do not decorate for it either. I do have a granddaughter born on October 31'st so I am sure there will be some pictures of children in costumes on here in a week or so. As Carol Burnett would say "Here's to the memories". Well I think it was Carol Burnett.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Our oldest grandson is visiting for the weekend so we just enjoyed a pepperoni pizza and bread sticks! Yumm! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Brenda!
I too, love the Wizard of Oz. I remember being 4 years old, living in military housing in Maryland and going upstairs to the neighbor's apartment to watch it! The monkey's scared me too!!!
While I own this movie on DVD, I prefer to watch it when it comes on TV, just like I did every year growing up!
Your dolls are adorable!
Isn't it great to get to eat the foods of youth and get to do so many things again, once you have grandchildren? Glad you're having fun!

Love your Wizard of Oz vignette. I too love this movie. And I too was very afraid of the flying monkeys. Kids now laugh that we think it was a scary movie. But it was!!! I so want to get the new Blue Ray version of the movie. Maybe Santa will bring it for Christmas.

Ohhh the Oz vingette is cool! Neat keepsake! I like how you've made this time of the year about your Oz. :) I don't remember much about the movie so now I want to watch it for the flying monkeys of course. :)

Thanks for linking up to the party!

Pepperoni Pizza and The Wizard of Oz -- the only thing that would make it better would be to have a Scottie sitting on your lap while you're watching the movie!! You know it's the 70th Anniversary of two of my favorite movies this year - The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind.

Have a wonderful Sunday and thanks for sharing.

Brenda, Can you hear my heart pounding clear from here? 10 acres in the woods!!! Our little acre used to be dairy land, is mostly clay and we earn every successful planting with lots of sweat & tears! To be in the woods, would make our place perfect! I would love to see your 10 year old kitchen,I'll bet it is lovely! Deborah

We used to be allowed to watch our dinner in front of the TV when Wizard of Oz was on! That was a real treat for us kids!

Hi Brenda, Boy does this post bring back the memories! Same here. Every year we'd watch it and every year those dad gum monkeys would send me scrambling. I can remember the music. still scary! You have the sweetest collection, and that is what a vignette should be; things grouped together that give us great joy!
Thank you for your comments on the Bible Study. It blesses me to know you are there!
