Where Is Spring?

That is right where is spring?  The ground surrounding us is still mostly covered with snow but the spring clock in my head keeps telling me I need to get started.  I need to start buying seed for our garden and  picking out some chicks to order from the Hatchery.  I want to dig in the dirt and hold baby chicks!

I've had a lot of time to crochet and sew, and I expect I will be wishing I had some of that time back once the canning and weeding are in full force.  The last thing I shared here were crocheted blocks so this time around I will share all the quilt blocks I have worked on since the first of the year.  I am very happy with the progress I have made on my Farmers Wife quilt although I have not even hit a quarter the squares I need for a queen size bed.

The next two blocks are from the Aurifil Block of the month.  These are free patterns that are posted each month on the Aurifil site here.

Sewing is what has been keeping me busy through my spring fever. We are expecting a break in the weather over the next couple of days but I may need a canoe to float down the drive to the road.

Wishing you a blessed weekend from our home in the woods!

New Grandbaby

I know it has been a while but I have been busy.  I had some grands visiting for almost a complete week while we waited for this little guy to make his appearance into the world.  This is our eighth grand, grandson number six and the forth child of my youngest daughter.  He was born on February 27th.  I have been using my phone to take pictures with recently when I am not at home and am finding it hard to get them downloaded where I need  for editing so you will have to excuse all the background stuff.  This was taken at the hospital at two days old.
In the creative department I have caught up with the CAL that I am following along with on Moogly.  As I mentioned in an earlier post I am making two of each block and will then have two Christmas presents at the end of the year.
Here are blocks 4 & 5 in the pink color scheme:

And the purple color scheme:

Now that I have 10 blocks altogether, I decided I better get busy blocking them.  I did pick up some blocking pins the last time I was in the city but I did not pick up anything to pin the blocks to until they dried.  So I went scrounging and found these foam puzzle pieces that the grands do not play with anymore.  Put a few together and then flipped them over to the non-textured side.

I then drew a twelve inch square on the foam pieces with a permanent marker and gave it a little drying time.

Next step is to lightly wet the block and pin to the foam pieces along the lines that I drew.  I will leave it overnight until it dries and move on to the next block.  So in 10 days I should have this step done and will make sure from now on I block each piece as I finish it.

I was happy to find a way to recycle these foam puzzle pieces into a useful project.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!  Blessings from our home in the woods.
