Farmgirl Friday

A few weeks ago I pulled a very old ironing board cover off a very old ironing board and I posted the pictures of all the layers here.  I recently purchased a new sewing machine which I am dancing with joy about.  I had it on Lay-away for about three months to get it paid for.
So the first project I sewed on my new machine was a new ironing board cover.
Had to make a new pad.

I know you would think there would be no wrinkles in an ironing board cover wouldn't you.  I had to carry it up the stairs to get a better picture and by time I carried it around the house to get the best picture it was all wrinkled.

Here it is above in the area it actually belongs in. You can get the tutorial at I Have To Say if you would like to make yourself a new ironing board cover.  I have one more I need to make but I need to take this one apart and figure out a different way to make it since I cannot run a drawstring around the back of this one.
Pretty ugly.
Linking up to Farmgirl Friday since that is where I first shared the original cover being removed.
Have a wonderful weekend and many blessings from our home in the woods!

Sunday Praise

We have three of our seven grands this weekend so we are very busy and blessed!  Have a wonderful day!

Just wanted to add that I was looking for a different song with the title "Be Still" or the words in it and came upon this one.  Loved its quietness

Catching Up

As the title says I am catching up.  I have been trying to catch up with the SAL's that I am participating in this year.  The first is May's block for the Raspberry Rabbits quilt along.

I also have been working on the Penny Rug SAL over at The House on the Side of the Hill.
This project I am far behind on.  I have skipped some objects to work on the pieces that are intriguing to me.  So I will have to fill in the blank spots and catch up soon.  I used vintage red buttons that I picked up from the flea market.  There is a little bird that sits on the top of the tree, that is the next step I am going to work on.

If you are interested in playing catch up along with me, visit these two sites and join in the fun!

Have a great evening!  Blessings from our home in the woods.

Chickens in the Herbs

That is right the hens have been in my herb beds and have came pretty close to destroying half of the plants.
We dug through the shed and found some of this wire fencing to temporary keep them out.  We did not have enough to put it in prettily, had to cut a few corners.
This only worked for a day or two then they started hopping over the fence and proceeded to scratch and dirt bath the day away.  So the next temporary barrier was some plastic mesh we use for different gardening projects.
Like I said these were just temporary fixes until the hubs finished building some fencing to enclose the boxes.
After we had these in place the feathered ladies stayed out for a day or two until they figured out that they could just step between the horizontal rails.  So the dear hubs had to cut more horizontal rails to attach in the middle between the top and bottom rails.  Finally we seem to have foiled the raiding of the herb gardens.
So far I have only cleaned out one box and replanted the empty spots.
There are three more to be replanted and prettied up, as long as these persistent ladies will keep moving along to buggier pastures.
This is Millie, she needs to keep moving on.  Happy Farmgirl Friday!

What's Blooming Wednesday

This weeks blooms.
I like how the plants worked well together in this pot.
The daisies are still blooming.

The roses just started opening Sunday.

I have been going to three of my grandson's soccer and baseball games.  One more week and I should be able to get back to my projects and have something finished to share.  Hope you are having a great week!

What I Did Sunday

First off I want to share with you a way to use up your left over baked potatoes  at breakfast.  Nan shared this recipe on her blog Pots and Pins.  You can find it here.  Be sure to pop over to Pots and Pins to thank Nan for a great start to your morning, I did.  I used the potato that I scooped out to make some American Fries to go along with the Baked Potato Breakfast Eggs.
Sunday afternoon I carried all my houseplants out to the deck to re-pot them.  They have been sorrily neglected.
By just re-potting in larger pots and fresh potting soil they all looked healthier right away.
Kept a few on the deck but it gets really hot there so the rest I put in front of the house where they will get more shade.  I think a summer outside will give them a kick start and probably insure they are watered more regularly.
Along the back of the yard where the woods takes over there is an area that usually stays covered with leaves.  There is no lawn under it and hubs just rakes and blows the leaves that way when he mows.  It is a haven for the hens.
I think they have a bug feast when they wander into it.

I have deleted the video.  I do not think anyone was able to watch it after the first couple of days.  Any suggestions on how to upload a video correctly?

For your entertainment I leave you with this chicken video.  After I caught them busy as bees scratching up bugs I shared the video with hubs.  He shook his head and pronounced that he just blew all those leaves back out of the yard with the garden tractor.  Living with chickens does not keep a neat lawn.  I have been battling to keep them out of my herb beds recently.  I will show you later in the week the steps we have gone through in that area.  Thanks for stopping by!  Blessings from our home in the woods.

Book Report

I have finished my forth book for the What's in the Name reading challenge at Beth Fish Reads.
This book, Moon Spinners is the third book in the Seaside Knitters Mystery series by Sally Goldenbaum and it fits under the category of a book with something you'd see in the sky in the title.
I am really enjoying these books.  The author "spins" the plot together in a way that keeps me guessing most of the way through the book of whom the murderer is.  Hubs is always telling me no guessing out loud "who done it" when we watch murder/mystery movies because I am really pretty good at sleuthing.  I always enjoy a writer that can throw me off somewhere in the middle of the book, making me think I have the answer and sending me down the wrong alley. I also always enjoy books that the story takes place in an area by the sea.  I think it must be my dream of living close to the seashore. You will love the characters, they are good friends that meet on Nell and Ben's deck each week for a evening of food and drink and of coarse the need to put their heads together to figure out who has once again upset the small town's peace and happiness.  And there is also Izzy's yarn shop where the women get together and knit wonderful creations and mysteries together.  One of the characters in the book, Cass, is knitting a fish hat which you can find here if you are a knitter at Knitty.com.  And you can visit Sally Goldenbaum at sallygoldenbaum.com where you can find titles of her books, recipes and knitting patterns that she shares.

Only two more of six books to read in the challenge.  A book with a type of house in the title and a book with something you'd find on a calendar in the title.  The hunt is on!
