WIP Wednesday

I think it is about time to share some things that I have been doing recently.  I have finally caught up with the QAL over at Raspberry Rabbits.
January Block
February Block
After completing the January and February the instructions said to sew these two block together.
I have been having fun stitching and putting these blocks together and am so glad to be ready for March's block when it comes out.  I am hoping to keep up with these blocks and be ready to finish at the end of the year.  I tried moving the blocks around to get a good picture of the colors but we are having some rather grey weather this week.  The second block is actually closer to the lighter color that shows up in the two blocks sewn together.

I have also finished bunting number three.
On to other sewing projects, sewing the bias tape onto three of these was rather time consuming. Here is the fabric I will be cutting next.

I have also been working on the much promised afghan for hubs.  He waited patiently for me to crochet six afghans over the last year for all the grands and now it is his turn.

Last Couple of Days

Hubs has been laying the new flooring in my work room "studio". Check out Ladybug being a bug.  She is worse than a toddler hanging on his shirt tail.
I finished bunting number two and am working on number three.  I would never make this many of this project so close together again.  I think it takes over an hour just to pin the binding on the front side of the two pieces.
That is what we have been up to.  Blessings from our home in the woods!

Friday Night Sew In Results

After coming home from work yesterday, my afternoon consisted of sitting my sewing area up on our dining room table.  I have been emptying out my work area for the last two weeks, getting it ready for the new flooring.  Hubs was ready to start taking up the old carpet tiles that were in that area from the previous owners and get the floor ready to lay the new stick on tiles.  I decided that I would rather have flooring that I could sweep up with a broom than carpet but unsure I was going to like it after everyone kept telling me it would be cold in the winter.  So I decided to go this route and if after a few years I decide to go back to carpet we will not be out a lot of money.

Sew, after moving everything I needed upstairs I was ready to start sewing.  Here are the flannels that I found in the correct width for the buntings I wanted to make from the book Fabric-by-Fabric One-Yard Wonders.
If you use the patterns from either of the One-Yard Wonders books be very careful that you check the fabric width that you buy because they use every bit of the yard of fabric you cut your patterns from.  I found that out the hard way with the first two yards of flannel that I bought.  This was a simple project but very time consuming because you have to pin the bias tape one the front to sew and then again on the back after pressing it around and in place.  I also picked up the wrong size of bias tape but it seemed to work just fine.  The pattern called for 1/4" wide double-fold bias tape and I picked up 1/2" wide.  I live quite a way from anywhere to exchange or re-buy so I decided to try it on one.  I decided I will just use the rest of the 1/2" on the other two that I have already purchased.  It might make a difference in how it turns under on the ties where inside corners are but after spending just a little extra time with my pressing they turned out fine.
The above is the outside laid out flat. I should have laid it the other way before taking the picture.
Of coarse there was no baby to wrap up and show you how it works so I used the largest stuffed bear I had.  The dolls that the grands play with were looking pretty unsanitary.  I only managed to get one done but hope to get the other two sewn up this weekend and put away for my grandson due this May.

I also was able to iron the appliques onto the January Raspberry Rabbit QAL block.  Ready for the rest of the hand-stitching.  It is missing a heart because I was not happy with the red wool felt that I had on hand to use. That will come later.
Finished up around 11:00 last night.  I have been making myself do a little housework before going back to my sewing today.  Enjoy your Saturday friends!

Friday Night Sew In

Today is the Friday Night Sew In for February.  I have found the correct size of flannel for one of the projects I was going to do last month on Friday Night Sew In for this project.
I have the fabric cut out for three of these.  Sorry I did not take pictures of the fabrics and I want to quick get this post up so I can start so you will have to come back tomorrow to see the fabric on the finish post.  I also hope to work on this project that I posted about a couple of days ago.  I have done the hand stitching on the first block and am ready to apply the appliques.  I hope to get some inspiration from all the projects that will be showing up during the

WIP Wednesday

I have a new work in progress.  I wavered on this one because I wanted to finish at least one more project before starting another.  It is a Quilt Along and I have collected fabrics and gotten all the supplies together in the past for other QAL and have not started or not kept up on these in the past so I have decided to start this one and try to catch up and keep caught up.  It is Raspberry Rabbits Harrington and Hannah QAL and if you are interested in joining you can go here, month two has just been posted.
The Raspberry Rabbits shop has kits for your fabrics, wool and threads but I wanted a different color scheme so I started from scratch.

I love tea or coffee dyed fabric so I picked this set of Moda fat quarters of Primitive Muslin by Primitive Gatherings for my background fabric.  I have been collecting some Civil War themed fabrics to make a quilt for our bed so I stole three more fat quarters from that stack because I think I will put this quilt in our bedroom when it is finished.
Last night I cut all the bunnies and back ground fabrics and tonight I cut all the 2 1/2 inch squares.

I have traced the rest of the patterns for both months on the fusible web and I should be ready to start stitching tomorrow.

I'm off to cut some more applique pieces.  Have a great evening.  Blessings from our home in the woods!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wishing you a Happy Valentines Day and hoping you will receive a lot of love throughout the day!
Hubs and I received these homemade hand decorated by our grand daughters donuts this weekend when they visited.

I bought the Wilton pan for the girls, so they with their mother's help, could make these baked donuts for their school Valentine parties.  They in return made some for us.  Yum.

And we also received this bouquet of hearts that they put together for us along with some hand made and store bought cards.
Made by our 5 & 6 year old grand daughters.
I hit my Pinterest boards again and made a few of these little suckers for my all my grands that I have already delivered.

This was a super simple project and you can find the instructions here at Cheap Chic Home.  I need to keep using my Pinterest boards so I do not feel bad about all the time I spend pinning.  Enjoy your evening.
Blessings!

One Thing, One Week Challenge

Last week I signed up to participate with Amy's Creative Side, One Thing, One Week Challenge.  This is a challenge that you pick one thing and stick to it for the week and see how much you can get accomplished.

Amy's Creative Side

I decided to work on the notebook covers that I had started here.  I had only quilted the outside of one cover as of last week.  I managed to quilt the rest through the week and finished putting them together this past Saturday while my grand daughters were playing in the the play room next to my work area.
I made these notebook covers for my daughters and gave them as Valentine gifts.  I was able to see each of them over the last two days.  They all live a half hour to an hour away from us.
This one is for daughter number three, she loves the bright colors.
The following one is for daughter number two.  I was iffy on the fabrics I picked for her but she loved it.
The next one is for daughter number one.  She likes Oriental prints and pink.  She was also happy with hers.
The last one I made for myself.  I quite often do not get around to making myself projects like these.  I have made 10 of these total which included six for Christmas gifts.
If you have visited here before it is obvious why I chose the above fabrics for myself.
Ladybug
The Bug went to the groomer today.  All spiffed up with her Valentine scarf on.

These are four out of a couple dozen pictures.  She usually moves every time I push the button or she gets her face right up into the camera.  There is always something in the background that I do not want in the picture but I just have to follow her until she stops.  Today, we were in my work area so the carpet has thread and pieces of fabric on it.  It was a chore, but I thought it was time for the name sake of my blog to make an appearance since she has not been on for a while.
Take my picture mom???

Blessing to everyone from our home in the woods!

Valentine Exchange

Cindy Bee over at The Bee Lady from Hilltop Farm has hosted a Valentine exchange this month.  I signed up and my exchange partner is Angela from The Country Cellar.  I received my gift today and boy was Angela generous!  We were told to fill an envelope, I received a box of goodies.
There was quite a few pretty gifts in this box so I made a cup of tea and cut up my afternoon apple, that I share with the Bug, to snack on while I sit down and write my post and share it all with you.
Peanut butter to dip my apple slices in. Yumm.
Everything opened up and laid out.

This was my favorite item in the box.  It is a dish cloth but I do not think it will ever touch dish water it is so cute.  There was also a second square dish cloth that will get used.  Red. Love it!
The pin cushion has found a home on my black desk just because it looked so good there.  I am sure it will move down to the sewing room once I get everything back in order.  Oh, I forgot, I have not told you that I have been emptying out my work area getting ready for some new flooring.  Ok Cindy Bee, my Studio, there I have said it just for you.
There were two of these little red candles.  They smell like cinnamon.  I put one in with my little birds to give them a Valentine look and the other is in a container waiting for me to light it and make my house smell wonderful.
This little pink bag is so cute.  You can see what it looks like closed in the first pic with all the gifts.  It came with some tea bags but I think I am going to put all those little punch cards we get from our favorite shops in it so I can find them easily  in my purse.
The above was my dingy old mouse pad.  Now I have this beautiful new mouse pad/calendar.  Makes me smile.
And I am sure you saw there was a box of chocolates also.  I am saving those for this coming weekend.  My two grand daughters are visiting and I think I will share this treat with them.  How wonderful to open my mailbox after work and errands to find this box.  I made myself put away the groceries before opening it and I will say it was well worth the wait.  I only hope Angela is as content with her gifts when they arrive.  Thank you so much Angela you made my day!  Blessings to all from our home in the woods.

Do You Pin?

I expect most of you will know I am talking about Pinterest.  I will sometimes find I have been pinning to my Pinterest boards for a couple of hours and wonder where that time went.  Oh the inspirations you can find and add so you do not forget, and the projects and tutorials that you do not have to print out anymore or save to your favorites and forget about them also.  But have you been going back to your boards and started any of those projects?  I have been pinning for a couple of months now and this past week I decided it was time to revisit those boards and pick out something to work on.  I do have a lot of projects in process right now, I always do.  But I picked out a crafty Prim project from Simply Prim that you can find here.
I am not going to give you the directions, Kris at Simply Prim has done that.  She has made them quite easy to follow also.
It is hard to believe these hearts started out as these red chenille sticks.  I have made quite a few for some sweet little gifts to give some of my friends.
The flowers that I added are not the same as Kris added.  I was unable to find the same and I really like hers so much more but these will do.  I will be keeping a couple for myself.  They have found a home here and there.

So remember to enjoy pinning but do not forget to go back and get some of those pictures turned into real life objects!  Thanks for stopping by for a visit and blessing from our home in the woods.

Waiting and Waiting

And waiting until finally a week and a half ago this happened:
Just cut them off yesterday, after all that waiting I would have loved for them to stick around a little longer.  They were certainly a cheery spot in my house for the time they lasted though.  I hope you are all having a wonderful week!
